Wacky races are likely to take place in Portishead this summer.

The Portishead SoapBox Race, which was a regular event in the 1950s, is set to make a return to the town in July.

The exact route has yet to be finalised but it is expected to take place around the Lake Grounds.

Teams of up to six people will be able to race their karts around the course in the hope of completing the circuit in the quickest time.

People of any age can compete, but organisers are insisting drivers must be over the age of 16.

Organisers need businesses to help out with sponsorship but remain confident the races will go ahead on July 16 as planned. They also hope to raise as much money as possible for St Peter’s Hospice.

Advanced tickets have sold out but more will be released at www.portisheadsoapbox.co.uk
