Road closures are planned and traffic disruption is expected with thousands of people due to descend on Portishead’s Lake Grounds at the weekend for the soapbox races.

Esplanade Road will be closed from Lake Road to Woodhill Road from 9am on Friday to 3pm on Monday.

The remainder of Esplanade Road, plus Lake Road, Battery Lane and Woodhill Road from Pier Road to Woodhill Avenue, will be closed from 6am-6pm on Sunday.

A one-way system will also be in force at the south of the Lake Grounds, involving Roadmoor Road, Beach Road West and Lake Road.

Car parking is available for £5 in Beach Road West, with disabled parking available closer to the action.

A Portishead Soapbox race spokesman said: "Please do not try to park in streets around the event.

"You may be inadvertently blocking private access, or potentially blocking the emergency services from getting around."
