There is a 'desperate' need for volunteers to come forward for one of Portishead's showpiece summer events.

Helpers are needed to pitch in at Portishead Soap Box Race on July 14.

The soap box race returned to the town in 2017 for the first time in decades, attracting thousands of people to watch the high-octane action, but organisers need help ensuring the event goes off without a hitch.

Jonathan Lewis, of Portishead Christmas Lights committee which is orchestrating the event's car parking, called on people to come forward.

Speaking at Portishead Town Council's meeting on June 19, he said: "We are desperately short of volunteers to help with car parking marshalling.

"If anyone is able to help for a couple of hours, please contact us. All help will be gratefully received."
