Dedicated fundraisers have reached their target of £100,000 for a new skatepark in Nailsea.

The Nailsea Skatepark Project (NSP) has raised enough to pay for a top-class facility for skateboard, scooter and BMX enthusiasts in Millennium Park.

The team behind the initiative is still pushing to raise as much as possible to get the best skatepark for the town.

NSP spokesman Phil Williams said: “The team has been very active fundraising over the last few months and this effort and the support of the community has paid off.

“It is so heartening to see the goodwill shown by the whole community and the surrounding area which is inspiring the team to keep pushing on.

“We want to be able to build a facility that the whole area can benefit from and that will last for well over 20 years.”

North Somerset Council has now put the work out to tender and companies interested in building the new concrete park must apply before Tuesday.

Members of the project will be selling baked goods for the cause at the farmers’ market in Nailsea on Saturday.

The team is also looking for prizes for a raffle which will be drawn on January 30.
