ENOUGH food to feed 20 families was collected by volunteers of the Clevedon Foodbank on Saturday.

Shoppers at the town’s Tesco store donated items to the facility, which provides food packages big enough to feed people in need for three days.

As well as collecting the items from shoppers, the volunteers also worked to raise awareness of the foodbank, which was officially launched during a special event on Friday.

Clevedon Foodbank chairman Jo Lenny said: “The school holidays can be an expensive time for parents and carers, particularly those in receipt of free school meals. We wanted to boost our stocks in preparation for this difficult time.”

More than 50 people braved the wet weather to take a look round the facility at Hither Green Industrial Estate on Friday and to learn about its work.

Clevedon Foodbank is open from noon to 2pm every Monday and Friday. Volunteers will be collecting donations from shoppers at Asda in Tweed Road from 10am-4pm on Saturday.
