Soft toys were tied to the back of sheep as they raced through a school field in Backwell.
Backwell School Association held a welcome barbecue for the new year seven pupils and their families on the Station Road site on Saturday.
Once the burgers and sausages had been eaten, staff and families enjoyed a flutter on the sheep racing.
Lori Burchill, a member of Backwell School support staff, took her lambs into school for the occasion.
The woolly racers provided plenty of entertainment as they chased each other along the playing fields.
