Severe thunder and torrential downpours are set to hit our region overnight as a band of humid air moves across the south.

The Met Office has released a severe weather warning which applies to the whole of the South West from 1am.

It predicts isolated severe thunderstorms are likely to develop overnight, bringing the risk of torrential rain through tomorrow (Friday). There is the potential for 20-30mm of rain falling within about an hour in the area south of the M4.

This will be followed by a band of more widespread heavy rain and occasional thunderstorms, moving gradually north later on Friday and into Saturday before becoming lighter on Saturday morning. It is expected to bring with it about 25-50mm of rain, mainly over the South West.

The Met Office says people should be aware of the chance of some localised, significant disruption that could result from surface water flooding.
