A FLOWER festival at St Nicholas Church in Portishead concluded with a traditional blessing of the sea.
After a weekend of activities, events and stunning floral displays at the Nore Road church, as part of its 100th anniversary celebrations, a ceremony emphasising the sea connections of the former Nautical School chapel, took place.
The congregation was invited to walk down to Black Nore Point where Rector Andy Bryant carried out a simple blessing of the sea and curate Jeremy Putnam launched several red roses onto the sea, in memory of all who have died at sea.
