Portishead Christmas Lights volunteers will climb ladders on Sunday to put up this year’s decorations.

VIPs will join TV presenter Jemma Cooper as she leads the countdown and switches on thea display at 6pm on Monday.

She will be joined by Santa and members of the carnival royal family before fireworks are set off.

Santa is expected to arrive in his sleigh, accompanied by his elves, at about 6.15pm.

They will be happy to take letters from children before and after.

There will also be a postbox for him in Goodman & Lilley estate agents.

The main event will again be held in The Precinct. The Wyndham Way/High Street junction to Combe Road will be closed for the ceremony.

A lights spokesman said: “Santa always leave the switch on with sacks full of letters from children and he likes to reply toe very single one but he can only
do this if the children remember to include their names and addresses.”
