A Clevedon woman has been named on the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Chris Sumter, who lives in Hallam Close, has been nominated for a British Empire Medal for services to the British community in Spain after she was made president of the Spanish Samaritans three years ago.

While with the group, which she joined as a trustee after moving there in 2008, Chris has undertaken projects including helping to support survivors of the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami in the Indian Ocean.

The 70-year-old also helped introduce a 24-hour Samaritans service to the whole of Spain and spent time supporting English-speaking inmates in Spanish prisons.
