A fitness challenge from the Royal Marines is coming to Nailsea this summer.

The gruelling challenge is based on the fitness test used for potential new recruits to the Royal Marines.

Donna Jordan is organising the event at Nailsea and Backwell Rugby Club on June 22 to raise money for The Royal Marines Charity.

Donna said: “The stations will follow the training and ethos of the Royal Marines and this event is open to anyone who would like to have a bash at it.

“You can enter as a team (maximum of six) or sign up individually.

“There is no event like this anywhere in the UK as it is based around the entry requirements for Britain's elite fighting force, the Royal Marines.

“The Royal Marines will be helping run the event at Nailsea and Backwell Rugby Club to enable teams to battle it out against each other.

“There will be five stations which you are expected to complete as quickly as possible, some tasks are physical, some are based around team work and some mental.

“You need to complete each station as quickly as you can before all rotating around to the next station.”

The challenge includes a physical ability test with sit-ups, push-ups, pull ups and sprints, followed by sprints around the field.

Next is the gun run in which participants will be asked to dismantle their field guns, run across the pitch with them and then set them up on the other side.

Teams will then take part in a fireman's carry and drag, followed by a 4.5km run.

The event was held as a pilot last year and was a big success.

Organisers are hoping to raise £15,000 for The Royal Marines Charity, which supports frontline soldiers and their families.

It is £37.90 to enter and each competitor is asked to raise a minimum of £25 on top.

Participants must be 18 to take part and prizes will be given out to the fittest competitor and the top fundraiser.

The Royal Marines are renowned for being one of the world's elite commando forces.

Fitness fans are encouraged to sign up to the event to put their skills to the test.
