■ A SOFA, bed and sleeping bags filled Queens Square on Saturday as two students talked to shoppers about youth homelessness.

Lauren Civill-Holt held the event in Clevedon town centre to raise awareness of the different types of homelessness – rough sleeping, sofa surfing and living in youth hostels.

The former Clevedon sixth form pupil organised the campaign for vInspired, which encourages young people to help others.

Lauren, who is studying physiotherapy at Cardiff University, and her friend Kate Sloan then slept out overnight near the Barn. She said: “It was so cold. Quite a few people walked passed and we found it quite intimidating sitting there in our sleeping bags.

“We had so many layers and we were still cold and it made us wonder how homeless people cope as they probably wouldn’t have as many layers as we did.”

Lauren is holding an exhibition on homelessness at Clevedon School on November 23 from 6-8pm for anyone interested in finding out more about the issue.
