A sports day has been held in Pill to help raise money for the village pool.

Portishead Rotary Club attended the event where it handed over a £100 cheque to Pill and District Children and Young People’s Partnership, which is helping to campaign for the refurbishment of the swimming pool at Crockerne Primary School.

Joanna Burt, secretary of the partnership’s under-11s committee, said: “We are so grateful to the rotary club for their commitment and support.

“We strive to encourage the children here in Pill and the surrounding area to join us and develop their sporting and social skills.”

John Sleight, rotary club member, added: “How could we not support such an event?

“It was a pleasure and joy to see so many children taking part in the numerous sporting activities.”

Activities enjoyed on the day included football, tennis and a bouncy castle.
