Generous Rotarians from Nailsea have raised more than £1,200 to help the victims of Hurricane Dorian.

Rotary Nailsea and Backwell paid for a ShelterBox kit, priced £568, to help those affected by the storm in the Bahamas.

ShelterBox kits provide emergency shelter and other essential items to support them in rebuilding their lives.

The group also arranged a collection at Tesco in Crown Glass Shopping Centre, which led to more than £680 worth of donations.

Rotarian Alan Davies said: "Rotary Nailsea and Backwell hasten to express their heart-felt gratitude to local people for their continuing generosity at times of crisis throughout the world.

"Thanks are also due to Tesco and the precinct management for allowing collectors to operate on their sites."

Hurricane Dorian caused flooding and destruction, killing at least 50 people and leaving more than 70,000 people in urgent need of aid.
