The Nursery

Children at a Portishead nursery have been practicing the art of giving.

The Nursery has encouraged children to complete a reverse advent calendar.

Instead of opening it each day and taking something out, the youngsters put something in instead.

Children and parents have been invited to make a deposit of either food or toys on any day during the advent period.

The children then explore the items given and discuss who they think might receive the item.

The Nursery will deliver the completed calendar to the Baby Bank or Foodbank.

Childcare expert and nursery owner, Jackie Hardie, said: “The festive season presents a great opportunity to discuss the real meaning of Christmas and help children to think of others.

“Empathy is really hard for young children to grasp but there are things we can do to encourage children to give something back.”
