The couple behind a popular business which will soon close have been praised by Portishead Town Council.

Morgan Westley, in High Street, will shut its doors for good next month, as owners Matt and Rosemary Westley begin a well-deserved retirement.

The shop has been open for more than three decades and has become a key part of the town, particularly as a box office selling tickets for community events.

The couple’s announcement, which was reported by the Times in October, was met with an immense reaction, with many people praising them for their many years of service to the town.

In November Matt and Rosemary were bestowed with the honour of switching on Portishead’s Christmas lights display.

And in December, the town council’s chairman Peter Mitchell presented the couple with a commemorative plaque to thank them for their hard work.
