Residents celebrate crossing switch-on

A NEW pedestrian crossing on a busy Backwell road has been given the thumbs-up by residents.

People living in the village were extremely happy to see the crossing in West Town Road switched on following a 13-year campaign to make getting across the road safer for pedestrians.

Lola Solari, who lives nearby, said: “I am delighted the crossing is finally in place and already getting plenty of use by people of all ages.”

North Somerset councillor for Backwell, Karen Barclay said: “It’s great to see the crossing finally in operation, I have had many calls from residents to say how pleased they are.”
