AN INNOVATIVE cooking oil recycling scheme has been set up in North Somerset.
AN INNOVATIVE cooking oil recycling scheme has been set up in North Somerset.
Residents can now take their waste oil to collection facilities in Portishead and Backwell.
All of the oil collected will be refined into biofuel and used to create electricity in dedicated generators.
The oil tanks have been installed by the company Living Fuel, in partnership with North Somerset Council and May Gurney environmental services, with the aim of reducing the amount of waste products going to landfill.
Living Fuels commercial manager Daniel Gillert said: “Thousands of tonnes of used cooking oil are poured down the drain each year, costing UK rate payers around �15million to clean up.
“By recycling your used cooking oil you’re not only helping to solve this problem but also making use of what was previously a waste material.”
The oil tanks have been installed at the recycling centres in Church Town, Backwell, and in Valley Road, Portishead.
