Prince Charles too busy to open Tithe Barn
PRINCE Charles has turned down an offer to open Nailsea’s restored Tithe Barn next year.
Nailsea Town Council wrote to his royal highness to see if he would cut the ribbon to officially open the barn after a �1.2million project to restore the historic building.
Nailsea Town Council received a reply written on behalf of Prince Charles, stating that his programme for next year is already extremely busy.
The letter stated ‘His Royal Highness is sorry to disappoint you but hopes you understand the pressures on his diary and that it’s not possible for him to include all the engagements he would wish to undertake’.
The trustees of Nailsea’s Tithe Barn are hoping to find the oldest former pupil who attended the school to officially open the venue next summer instead.
At its meeting on Wednesday, Nailsea Town Council agreed to work closely with the trust to plan an impressive opening worthy of the Grade II listed building.
The work is expected to be completed in April and the building will then become a base for Nailsea Town Council as well as a central hub for community groups, wedding receptions and private parties.
