THE Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, Lady Gass, has handed a prestigious award to a voluntary group in Clevedon.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Clevedon Pride had been named as a recipient of a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, for its efforts helping to keep the town looking good.

On Sunday, members gathered at Clevedon Court to receive the award, the highest accolade available for a voluntary group, from Lady Gass.

At the same time, a cheque for £5,000 was handed over by members of The Rotary Club of Clevedon Yeo.

The money was raised during a dinner dance organised by the two groups and will go toward improvement projects in the town.
