COMMUNITY members in Portishead have been officially recognised for their contributions to the town.

Portishead and North Weston Town Council handed out Pride in Portishead awards at a civic event at Somerset Hall on Friday evening.

More than 90 guests attended the ceremony, which saw groups and individuals commended for the time and effort they put in to help make Portishead the town it is.

Groups from Portishead in Bloom to the Open Air Pool were honoured, along with youth workers, parents, carers and other volunteers.

Portishead Players kicked off the evening with a comical, short play, before council chairman, Reyna Knight presented framed certificates to the winners. Music was provided by piano and flute playing duo, Gin and Tonic.

Cllr Knight said: “What is so evident in Portishead, is the fantastic community spirit and the willingness of people to give something back to improve the town.

“The aim of these awards is to recognise the hard work of many of these people, whether they work to improve the environment we live in or work with residents of Portishead to make their life better.”
