Swimmers in Portishead are being urged to do something amazing and take part in one of its biggest charity events.

Portishead Rotary Club’s annual swimathon will take place in March and more than £200,000 has been raised in its 22-year history.

This year’s beneficiaries will include Portishead Stroke Drop-In Centre, Dyslexia Portishead, Macmillan Cancer Support and The Alzheimer’s Society.

Organiser Mollie Young said: “The event is divided into sessions of 10, with teams of six swimming in relay style for 35 minutes.

“Age and ability are no barrier and it’s not a race or competition. The aim is for it to be a day of fun while raising funds from sponsorship.”

Schools, scouts, brownies and other groups who take part can also earn funding for a project they are working towards.

The swimathon will take place on March 17 at Parish Wharf Leisure Centre.
