A Portishead primary school has been chosen as one of 32 English hubs by the Government.
St Peter’s Primary School, in Halletts Way, was selected as a hub due to its expertise in teaching children to read and supporting neighbouring schools.
The hubs will work to improve literacy skills across the country and improve outcomes for children in underperforming schools.
St Peter’s headteacher, Sharon Roberts, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been selected as one of 32 English hubs.
“This is an exciting project and we are looking forward to working with schools in our region to ensure all children have the very best start in learning to read.”
Backed by a £26.3million funding package, the hubs will provide school workshops for teachers.
Specialist literary teachers will also be identified to act as experts in early language and reading from reception to year one.
