More than 100 elderly people who do not get out as much as they used to were treated to an evening of entertainment in Portishead last week.

The annual senior citizens’ supper was served up at Somerset Hall on March 4, with guests enjoying a slap-up meal and a series of performances.

This year’s theme was ‘a trip around the world’, and evening was brimming international entertainment.

Volunteers from the town’s Lions and Rotary clubs helped out with transport arrangements along with Portishead Porters.

Youngsters from Avon and Somerset Police Cadets, St John Ambulance and Gordano School also lent a hand on the night to ensure it was a success.

Elissa Hamiliton, of the organising committee, was delighted with how the meal went, adding: “This is a fantastic event to be involved with as it brings together so many people and it would not be possible without the huge team of volunteers behind the scenes.”
