A Portishead dog will appear on a Channel 5 TV show about rescue dogs.

The crew from The Dog Rescuers visited Portishead Quays Marina to film Fozzy, who was re-homed by Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary after his owners could no longer look after him.

He was taken on by Newfound Friends, which trains dogs to carry out water rescues.

David Pugh, from the charity, said: “Fozzy has only been in training for a few months but is very keen and with lots of love and encouragement is excelling in his new career helping others as a member of Newfound Friends.”

The charity is celebrating its 30th anniversary year having raised more than £140million for 46 different charities with their sponsored events at Portishead Marina. Newfound Friends also visits hospices and hospitals with the dogs.

The new series of The Dog Rescuers featuring Fozzy starts in February.
