Archant

All eyes will be on Portishead tomorrow (Sunday) as one of the events of the summer is set to take the town by storm.

Expect splashes aplenty as the annual raft race takes place this weekend.

The event is due to get under way at 11.30am at the Lake Grounds. At that point the music starts and people can register for the edible boats race, with the regatta starting an hour later.

The first raft race will begin at 1pm, and the last at 2.30pm. However the times could change on the day.

While there will be a lot of fun and invariably a few designs that would not impress nautical experts, there is an important side to the annual raft race. Last year almost £10,000 was raised for charities and local community groups.

The Times will have a stall at the event too, so make sure you pop down and say hello to the team.
