Dogs and their owners will be able to swim together at Portishead Open Air Pool next month.

The Esplanade Road facility and RNLI Portishead will host an event on September 30 to teach people how to keep their pet safe in water.

Each dog entering the pool will need to be fully vaccinated and more than 10 months old.

The animals must also wear a collar or lightweight harness.

A spokesman for the pool’s community trust said: “To allay any concerns over hygiene, the trust would like to point out that the water will be properly treated and filtered after the event and all surfaces in and around the pool thoroughly cleaned before the pool reopens.”

Representatives from pet shops and vets will also attend.

Sessions will take place at half-hour intervals throughout the afternoon.

Tickets, priced £5.98, are available online.
