A town council caretaker has retired after 35 years’ service.

Peter Leah has been the caretaker for the Folk Hall in Portishead High Street since October 1982, when the town was half the size it is today.

He has worked under dozens of town council chairmen and has prepared the Folk Hall for more than 300 full town council meetings during that time, as well as hundreds of different committee meetings

At a small ceremony on March 14, attended by councillors and representatives from many of the regular user groups at the Folk Hall, council chairman Lesley Cottrell presented Peter with a town plaque and a brass tidal clock, something he will add to his nautical collection.

Cllr Cottrell said: “Peter has been rock to the town council during his service and we are very sad to
see him go, we do
however wish him a very happy and enjoyable retirement.”
