Kind-hearted Portishead volunteers will use their spare time to brighten the festive season of those less fortunate this week.

Portishead Lions Club, Salvation Army and St Barnabas Children’s Centre have teamed up to deliver dozens of hampers to needy families before Christmas.

The 70 hampers were put together by Pill’s Salvation Army group, and the children’s centre identified families who would be worthy recipients of the gifts.

But the organisations were unable to deliver them, however the Lions club has stepped forward and offered to help spread the festive cheer.

Lions member Roy Shaw said: “Thank you very much to Nick Ward and his Salvation Army team for putting the hampers together and to Suzanne Thorne and her colleagues at the children’s centre for finding the worthy recipients.”
