Youngsters are a step closer to an exciting trip abroad after receiving hundreds of pounds from Portishead Lions.

The charitable group has donated £500 to Portishead 1st Scouts, who hope to travel to Switzerland this summer.

Around 25 scouts hope to visit the International Scout Centre, in Kandersteg, where they will take part in a range of adventurous activities including hiking, canoeing and climbing.

Roy Shaw, of the Lions club, said: “Our motto is ‘we serve’.

“It’s what we like to do and needs come in various ways.

“We are very aware our youngsters are the future of our nation and it is so important that they are set on the right path.

“Our funds come fundamentally from the good folk of Portishead, so it is nice for them to see their donations going somewhere so fitting.”

Mr Shaw also thanked people for supporting the club’s Christmas fundraisers.
