A car boot sale organised by Portishead Lions managed to raise more than £700.

The organisation had planned to hold the event in late-August but had to change its plans when bad weather threatened to ruin the sale.

Organiser Derek McLay said: “When the heavens opened on August 23 I thought that we were going to lose money on the event.

“We quickly rearranged the date and are grateful to all the sellers and buyers who turned up on the day.

“Their support has helped us to raise a profit of more than £700.

“This will help us to provide help to local individuals who need support.”
