Portishead RNLI was launched yesterday (Tuesday) to rescue what was thought to be a life raft.

The crew was mobilised at about 7.41am to deal with the incident in the Severn Estuary.

But as the crew arrived at the scene it realised the suspected raft was actually two very large bags.

An RNLI spokesman said: “The crew took them on board to avoid any risk to shipping and boat owners, but we believe there may be more.

“It was a call with good intent.”

The crew recovered three bags in total.
