Dedicated volunteers who have spent their free time sprucing up Portishead have once again received high praise from judges.

Portishead in Bloom, for the 11th consecutive year, has been awarded gold status by Britain in Bloom.

The group was competing in the champion of champions category, and shared the crown with other towns which received the gold award.

Chairman Ian Murphy told the Times he was ‘delighted’ to achieve gold status.

He said: “We’re overjoyed to get gold. I must pay tribute to the efforts of our committee and volunteers – plus the help of Portishead Town Council, North Somerset Council and Glendale.

“Without their help we could not achieve what we did.

“The judges told us we clearly embrace everything positive about Britain in Bloom, and North Somerset can be proud it has Portishead within its boundaries.”
