Friends from North Somerset have rallied to collect much-needed supplies in aid of homeless people.

Portishead resident Lori Rowsell and friends collected 16 rucksacks filled with essential items to help people sleeping rough in Bristol.

They will be distributed by Christian refuge Wild Goose, which offers food and practical support for those in need, including help finding accommodation or applying for benefits.

Lori said: “We all felt there was such a need to help those people who are much less fortunate than ourselves, particularly those living on the streets and by providing these rucksacks it just might give them some hope and reassurance that they are thought about and cared for.”

Portishead Rotary Club also supported the project, and its spokesman John Sleight said: “What a fantastic showing of a community pulling together. We were so pleased to be involved in a small but effective way.”
