Sunday opening hours are set to double at two libraries this weekend.

From today (Sunday) hours at the libraries in Portishead and Yatton will be extended to 8am-8pm.

A self-service swipe card system called Extended Access was introduced by North Somerset Council in the libraries last year.

Members who signed up to the scheme can use these libraries during unstaffed hours, either earlier in the mornings, in the evenings or for additional hours at weekends.

A short induction session will enable members to borrow and return books, and use the computers and photocopying facilities at more suitable times.

Cllr Felicity Baker, the council’s executive member responsible for the library service, said: “Convenience is so important to today’s users and increasing the hours on a Sunday will give them even greater flexibility in how and when they use the library.

“We have had a lot of positive feedback about Extended Access.”
