NORTH Somerset could be awash with the colour red next year in time for the centenary of the outbreak of World War One.

As part of commemorations, North Somerset Council and its contractor Glendale are offering free poppy seeds to town and parish councils and community groups across the district.

The unitary authority will also be planting poppy seeds on its own land in remembrance of servicemen and women.

Glendale and the council are also planning to incorporate more red coloured summer flowers into its successful free annual flower give-away scheme.

Anyone running a community group that would like free poppy seed or flowers should email kevin.carlton@n-somerset.gov.uk
