Pool proves popular despite poor weather

ONE of the wettest, coolest summers on record did not deter people visiting Portishead Open Air Pool this year.
Trustees doing the sums ahead of the forthcoming annual meeting say they were very surprised to find the number of swimmers for the 2012 season totalled 30,800. This is almost the same as in 2011, excluding the unusually hot weekend when the pool opened after the season had officially ended.
A pool spokesman said: “More and more swimmers are coming to know the pleasure of swimming in a quiet, warm pool even in the rain, especially with a hot shower afterwards followed by a coffee in the adjoining café.”
The trust will hold its annual meeting at Clarence House in High Street at 7.30pm on November 29.
Once the formal business is concluded there will be an open meeting for people to find out more about the pool’s past season and plans for the future. There will also be a chance for volunteers to sign up to help with cleaning and maintenance throughout the winter months or to commit to helping out for the 2013 season.
