CAR owners are being warned of the risks of leaving their vehicles in a Portbury lay-by after one was set on fire.

The parking area at the junction of the A369 and Portbury High Street is regularly used by commuters who leave their cars there during the day.

However, at 2am on March 20 one vehicle, which had been left there while the owner was away on business, was set alight.

This follows a number of other incidents which have seen abusive notes and banana skins left on the windscreens and bonnets of other vehicles.

Police are now hoping to raise awareness of the issue and will maintain patrols in the area.
