A PORTISHEAD schoolgirl has launched a campaign to protect frogs.
Ellen Bowers, of The Vale, was horrified at the number of squashed frogs on the road near her home.
The 10-year-old said: “I felt really sad when I saw them. I live near a pond and the frogs are probably making their way to the water to lay their spawn but they are getting run over on the way.”
Ellen, who attends St Peter’s Primary School, decided to do something to help the unfortunate amphibians and has put up signs up along Gallingale Way to warn motorists.
She added: “I wanted to do something to help the frogs so I made some signs and I have already seen cars slow down when they see the warning.”
