A PLANNING application has been submitted for a police firearms training base in Portishead.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary has put in for permission to create the facility at Black Rock Quarry off Valley Road.

To include a 100m, eight-lane firing range and a tactics house, once completed, it will be used by officers from Avon and Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire constabularies.

The police have already held consultations about the project and hope, subject to permission, to complete the facility in early 2014.
