A developer is hoping to build 600 homes on a greenbelt site to the north of Nailsea.
Land Value Alliances will soon be applying for planning permission to build the properties on the 25 hectare site, with two hectares set aside for employment and the possibility of a bypass.
The land has not been allocated for development in North Somerset Council’s site allocation plan but the developer is hoping there will be a greenbelt review due to the huge demand for extra homes in the area.
A company spokesman said: “The site is located right on the edge of Nailsea’s development boundary. It’s bordered by the B3130, existing housing, a trading estate and business park.
“It isn’t located within the area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB). It isn’t part of a high risk flood zone, nor is it part of a special landscape area.
“The potential also exists to re-allocate greenbelt status to protect the more sensitive strategic gap between Backwell and Nailsea.
“It also has the potential to deliver a much needed northern bypass road which would reduce congestion locally and provide a more suitable access for the existing and proposed employment areas.”
The West of England Joint Spatial Plan proposes an extra 3,600 homes for Nailsea and Backwell and the developer believes these plans would be a sustainable option to provide much-needed homes in the area.
