Portishead Carnival organisers have thanked people for their support after another hugely successful event on Saturday.

Thousands of people either took part in the procession from the Lake Grounds which snaked its way through the town or watched on as carnival fever took hold.

The parade was its usual colourful affair with groups such as Portishead RNLI and the youth centre joining business, clubs and schools.

Carnival Queen Ellie-Mae Ford and Junior Queen Daisy Waymouth, as sponsored by the Times and the Portishead and Clevedon Resident, took part in the event.

The end of the procession did not mean the end of the festivities however, as the show field played host to stalls, games and live music.

Organisers Jemma Cooper and Wendy Watkins were thankful to everyone who contributed to the event.

They said: “The carnival is a true community event and we rely very heavily on the help and support given by many organisations and individuals in the town.

“This year more than ever we really want to say a huge massive thank you to all our volunteers. Without them we simply couldn’t put the carnival on and you really do mean so much to us.

“As always, thank you to everyone in Portishead for turning out to support carnival.

“We are blown away every year by the effort people go to in the procession, the huge crowds lining the streets and the support that is shown for the field.”
