Hundreds of people flocked to Portishead Raft Race on Sunday.

Dozens of teams entered the annual competition at the Lake Grounds, with competitors getting into the spirit of the occasion with colourful rafts and fancy dress.

A Batman-themed boat, a Baywatch entry and bearded men in tutus were among the unusual sights you would not normally expect to see in Portishead on a Sunday.

However this year’s title went to Sainsbury’s who edged out Le Roc Two and Denny Scouts.

Unfortunately one team always has to take home the wooden spoon and this year it went to debutants, Anne Cleans Houses.

Anne Wilson thanked her six-strong grew for their efforts in raising £700 towards the large fundraising total that the race achieved.

On the main field there were lots of rides and stalls open to the public too.

The Times ran a guess the number of sweets in the jar competition to raise money for its Birthday Presents campaign while next door Heritage Estate Agents ran a seemingly popular soak the agent competition.

Key community groups such as Portishead RNLI, the scouts and the Rotary Club of Portishead were also in attendance.

The only down side on a great event was the weather, as a traditional British rain shower at lunchtime threatened to ruin the day, but thankfully the sun returned to ensure spectators did not quite get as wet as those competing in the races.
