THOUSANDS of people paid tribute to those who have died in conflict as North Somerset marked Remembrance Day.

Touching tributes to the fallen were paid in services and remembrance parades across the district as wreaths were laid at memorials and poppies worn with pride.

* A CIVILIAN war memorial has been unveiled in Portishead.

The plaque, provided by the Gordano Society history group, has been made in remembrance of the residents of Albert Road who lost their lives during a bombing raid on September 3 1940 and also a resident of Channel View Crescent. The memorial was installed at the Brampton Way flower bed, close to the junction of Albert Road, on Remembrance Day, after a blessing by the Rev Andy Bryant.

The unveiling was attended by Diane Yeoman of Portishead whose late husband was related to one of the families who lost their lives.

* A REMEMBRANCE Day parade was held in Clevedon on Sunday to pay tribute to all those who have lost their lives in conflict.

The parade marched from the Salthouse Fields to St Andrew’s Church.

The Avon Glen Pipe and Drum Band led the parade, while Councillor David Shopland held the role of parade marshall.

Scores of people packed into the church to pay tribute to the brave men and women from North Somerset who have died fighting for our country.

* TWELVE-year-old junior soldier Tyler Gibbons played the Last Post and Reveille at a Remembrance service in Christ Church, Pill.

The church was packed with people waving flags and banners as they remembered the fallen in a service taken by the Rev Ruth Legg.

Tyler plays with the Salvation Army band in Pill and was delighted to be asked to perform in front of the war memorial.

Year nine pupils at the Valley Road school have been studying the two world wars and created the display in the science atrium using their work.
