CAKES were baked, fancy dress worn and challenges completed all to raise money for Comic Relief on Friday.

In Nailsea, Golden Valley Primary School held a bake-off with teams of pupils and staff tasked with creating chocolate fridge cakes, at Nailsea School sixth form students wore onesies to class and at Gemini Gym Club coaches dressed in wacky costumes.

At Nailsea and Backwell Rugby Club a team assembled by Gina Burley-Staffieri took on a challenge which saw them ride Space Hoppers in relay along the length of the pitch during the first half of a rugby match on Saturday.

At Crockerne Primary School in Pill children took part in a wacky hair competition.

In Clevedon, children at Mary Elton Primary School held a school market morning and two courageous year six girls, Samantha and Martha, braved a bath full of beans while year five pupil Christina knitted woolly pets.

Cakes were sold at St Nicholas Chantry Primary School, ABC 123 Daycare in Old Church Road held a Mad Hatter’s tea party, raising £225, and staff at the Moon and Sixpence pub took on challenges including a sponsored silence and being gunged.

In the Marco Pierre White restaurant at Doubletree by Hilton at Cadbury House, house staff and kitchen staff swapped places for an evening while the Congresbury hotel’s maintenance team dressed in pink tutus for the day.

In Portishead, from a superhero dressing-up day at St Peter’s Primary School and a pyjama party at Parish Wharf Leisure Centre to chest waxing at Tonic Hair and Beauty House, thousands of pounds was raised across the town.

Pupils at High Down Junior School went into the High Street to collect donations from shoppers and at Busy Bees, staff and children dressed in bright, 1980s style clothing.
