Peter wins youth election
A GORDANO School pupil has been elected as North Somerset’s next member of youth parliament following a polling day last week.
Peter Davies was one of 12 young people who put themselves forward as candidates in the hope of being elected as the district’s representative on the UK Youth Parliament.
Voting took place across all North Somerset secondary schools on Thursday using specially printed ballot papers and genuine ballot boxes.
On Friday, the boxes were taken to Nailsea School, where the count was carried out, overseen by North Somerset Council’s electoral services team.
Peter Davies was one of five candidates from Gordano School and he gained 1,358 votes.
Wesley Cox from Churchill Community Foundation School and Sixth Form Centre was the runner up with 1,064 votes and will be the deputy member of the UK Youth Parliament.
Weston MP John Penrose attended the count to lend his support to the scheme.

When asked what advice Peter could offer him, Peter said: “Hit the ground running. Also remember what you promise and make sure you deliver it for the people that voted for you because people remember that stuff.
“If you deliver it then they will support you again but if you don’t deliver it life will be very uncomfortable for you.”
