A cancer charity in Pill will host an open evening next month.

Penny Brohn Cancer Care will host Transforming the Experience of Cancer on October 13 at its headquarters in Chapel Pill Lane, where guests will have the opportunity to learn about self-care techniques and enjoy sampling a variety of healthy foods from 6-8pm.

The charity is also inviting people to take part in Bristol’s Healthy City Week on October 11 which will involve a fundraising walk from 10.30am at the city’s harbourside.

The events come after the charity was announced as a beneficiary following the death of author Jackie Collins last week.

Laura Kerby, Penny Brohn chief executive, said: “After hearing that we were the UK beneficiary we thought the week was a perfect time to showcase our services.

“We want as many people as possible to come to our fun taster which gives people a flavour of us and how we help people with cancer and their supporters.

“The purpose of the walk is to encourage people to be active because movement is so important to health and wellbeing.”
