The Liberal Democrats has announced its North Somerset parliamentary candidate for the next General Election.

Ashley Cartman will lead his party’s bid to challenge sitting MP Liam Fox when the next election is called.

Mr Cartman, a Somerset native who lives in Long Ashton with his partner and four children, is ‘delighted’ to have received his party’s nomination.

Becoming active in the party after the 2016 European Union referendum, Mr Cartman says he is excited to ‘unite the opposition’ to Brexit in North Somerset.

He said: “The referendum inspired me to get involved in politics but I also believe people don’t get the same chances in life they used to.

“Not just young people but all people.

“In the run-up to the next election, we will be running events, reaching out and listening to people.

“We want to build a coalition of ideas.”

The next General Election is due to be held in 2022, following the public vote last year.
