Snow warnings for North Somerset have been upgraded to amber this afternoon (Tuesday).
The Met Office has been predicting snow for the district on Thursday and Friday, but had issued yellow weather warnings.
Those warnings, which are in place from 2pm on Thursday until noon on Saturday, have been increased to amber. It means the impact of the snow on transport and health may be more severe than originally anticipated.
The Met Office has warned snow on Thursday could coincide with gale force winds.
A spokesman said: “There is still uncertainty in how this system will develop, but there is a small chance of the combined effects of snow, strong winds and ice leading to severe impacts.”
There is also a risk of ice on Friday and Saturday.
The spokesman added: “There is a slight chance roads may become blocked by deep snow, with stranded vehicles and passengers.”
