An earthquake has been felt by people in North Somerset this afternoon.

Tremors hit the South West at about 2.30pm with a number of people feeling buildings shake.

The British Geological Society says an earthquake of a ‘reasonable size’ for the UK struck near Swansea.

Early estimations by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre suggest it registered as 4.7 on the Richter scale.

The earthquake was felt from far and wide with reports of tremors being felt in Ireland and London too.
